Young Marble Giants - Colossal Youth

And while we were getting all sniffy about ‘Headgirl‘, we were being dark and interesting and loving stuff like Young Marble Giants. The Cardiff post-punk trio produced one of the records of that or any decade – ‘Colossal Youth‘ – which now, fantastically, has been re-released in 3CD format, and we can revel once more in the understated chugging guitar and spring-loaded bass of the Moxham brothers, and the cool vocal style of Alison Statton.

In addition to the LP material, the CD set consists of material originally released on singles, compilations and demos, plus Peel Sessions.

Lovely. I know it’s far too hip to even mention YMG, but ‘Colossal Youth’ is to this day an engaging and original treat to listen to. Recommended reissue of 2007. Here’s ‘Choci Loni’..

N.B. Now you know where The XX got their sound.
